How to install your column

Before installing the column, inspect the nanoViper transfer line and sealing surfaces for any signs of deformation or damage. A deformed or damaged nanoViper fitting or sealing surface can prevent a proper seal and may result in fitting leaks or reduced performance.

All Aurora Series columns are pre-fitted with our nanoZero® fitting, which provides a true zero-dead-volume female union compatible with:
  1. Thermo Scientific nanoViper Fingertight Fittings (recommended)
  2. Waters ZenFit Connection Technology

Connecting your nanoViper into the nanoZero®
To install the column, insert the nanoViper into the nanoZero®, carefully maintaining alignment so that the nanoViper seal meets the face of the conductive seal at the base of the nanoZero®. Rotate the nanoViper one full turn using the black nut, then turn back ¼ turn to confirm there is no cross-threading. Complete the installation by screwing the nanoViper in the rest of the way until the connection is finger tight. When properly aligned, rotational motion converts into linear motion, and the two parts should glide smoothly into place. If there is any resistance, unscrew and try again. Never use a torque screwdriver to install the column.

Once the nanoViper capillary line has been installed, insert the column into the holder and install the pre-heated heater controller before adjusting the emitter to ~3mm from the MS orifice (~1-0.5mm when using FAIMS). Start solvent flow and, once a droplet forms at the end of the emitter, turn on the spray voltage. We recommend starting at ~1500V and increasing as needed (maximum allowable spray voltage is 2500V).
