Choosing the best column length for your lab

Choosing the best column length for your lab

The best column length for your lab will depend on your sample types, sample cohort size, and preferred performance indicators. Please submit a support ticket if you would like to discuss your options in detail.

For an in-depth comparison of coverage, throughput, and sensitivity for the Aurora Frontier, Ultimate, Elite, and Rapid columns, please refer to our product brochures here.

Below we have listed a few key points for each column length. Please note that the lifetime expectancies are based on recommended gradients. Actual lifetime expectancy will vary depending on your instrument configuration, set-up, and sample types.

Aurora Frontier column
(60cm x 75µm ID, 1.7µm C18)
  1. The first column ever to enable near-full proteome coverage
  2. Recommended 90-180 minute gradients
  3. Available in the Aurora, Aurora CSI, Aurora TS, and Aurora SX product ranges

Aurora Ultimate column
(25cm x 75µm ID, 1.7µm C18)
  1. Enables deep proteome analysis for samples like tissue and cell lines
  2. Great for academic and research laboratories
  3. Recommended 90-120 minute gradients, 20 min overhead = 12 - 15 samples/day
  4. Average lifetime of 300+ injections
  5. Available in the Aurora, Aurora CSI, Aurora TS, and Aurora SX product ranges

Aurora Elite column
(15cm x 75µm ID, 1.7µm C18)
  1. Enables deep proteome analysis in rapid time
  2. Great for moderate sized sample cohorts (500 - 1,000+ samples)
  3. Recommended 17 minute gradients, 11 min overhead = 50 samples/day
  4. Average lifetime of 800+ injections
  5. Available in the Aurora, Aurora CSI, Aurora TS, and Aurora SX product ranges

Aurora Rapid150 column
(5cm x 150µm ID, 1.7µm C18)
  1. Ideal for high throughput analysis of biological fluid and targeted workflows
  2. Great for large sample cohorts (1,000 - 20,000+ samples)
  3. Recommended 5 minute gradients, 3 minute overhead = 180 samples/day
  4. Average lifetime of 1,500+ injections
  5. Available in the Aurora and Aurora CSI product ranges only

Aurora Rapid75 column
(5cm x 75µm ID, 1.7µm C18)
  1. Ideal for high throughput analysis of single cell and low sample inputs
  2. Recommended 5-15 minute gradients, 3 minute overhead = 80 - 180 samples/day
  3. Average lifetime of 1,500+ injections
  4. Available in the Aurora and Aurora CSI product ranges only
